hibi is an incense match that was designed to be used without a lighter. It’s a collaboration between two traditional manufacturers in the Hyogo Prefecture. The incense hails from Awaji Island and matches from Harima.
The following collection is known as hibi's "Deep" series. It features the earthy, meditative scents that are often used in traditional Japanese incense.
- Oak Moss
The fragrance of earthy moss that can be found at the base of an oak tree deep in the forest. It's a mysterious scent of warmth and austerity.
A cool, clear, woody green scent reminiscent of the clean air of a cedar forest, it evokes a sense of strength and intelligence.
This is a highly valued scent in perfumers and was traditionally used in Eastern medicines and potions. It has a musky, sensual fragrance.
Regardless which of the variants you try, you're sure to be pleased with the subtle quality of hibi. Give it a try yourself and you'll see why Hyogo Prefecture is renowned worldwide for its incense!
✨ Scents to Color Everyday Life
Removing a match from the box ignites a spark that lights the incense. There's something tactile and beautiful about the disappearing trail of smoke that emanates forth from the recently lit match.
While the flame lingers only for but a mere few 10 minutes, those who catch a whiff of the scene will find themselves overwhelmed with a sense of peace and connectedness.
✨ Made in Hyogo Prefecture
Hyogo Prefecture was a manufacturing and export center for matches in the early 1900s but with the invention of lighters, their popularity began to decline. Kobe Match was introduced to incense maker Daihatsu and along with design team TRUNK DESIGN, the hibi match was born.
It was awarded the 2019 GOOD DESIGN AWARD, under the Good Focus Award "Design of Technique and Tradition.
